Prologue

The plan to travel the world wasn't all that new to us but it was always one of those things that would happen at some point in the future.
Not so much now! The official start date of our journey is set to April 16th. Still hard to believe...

Just before Christmas 2015 we both resigned from our jobs, terminated our tenancy and generally worked through tons of paperwork. Generous cancellation periods meant that our last days at work would be around March 24th and that we wouldn't be able to move out of our shared flat before the end of March.

Despite the departure date getting closer and closer there wasn't too much we could do in terms of further preparation and probably it was a good thing that our everyday lifes kept us busy till March. We did however continue working on the bicycles. Bicycles? Writing this it appears incredibly stupid to do the journey on a bike rather than with a backpack! Some information about our motivation to travel by bike can be found in the About Us section.

We had started building our touring bikes last year based on used mountainbike frames. During the winterly weather there was no point in further riding our bikes for the purpose of training. So we decided to have them powder-coated as their nearly 30 year old original vanish was in poor condition. Also their 90s-colours weren't as inconspicuous as we would like them to be.

You can find more details on our bicycles on this page.
Details about our gear can be found here.

The last days before our departure were then pretty stressful. Our live-tracking needed to be set-up properly, we were meeting sooo many people to say our goodbyes and we gave interviews to local radio station Radio RSG and to a German newspaper. The latter can be found here.

Last but not least we set up this blog where we will publish monthly updates about how our journey goes.
